CW Sets Melrose Place

CW is going for sexy singles, sexy vampires and sexy models next season.

Web has given series greenlights to three dramas — Melrose Place, Vampire Diaries and The Beautiful Life — in advance of its sked presentation on Thursday.

The Melrose Place redo, from CBS Television Studios, was penned by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. Like the Fox sudser from the early 1990s, series revolves around a group of twentysomethings who live in a swanky L.A. apartment complex, but with a murder mystery twist right from the get-go.

New Melrose Place Features Bisexual Ella

Posted on May 20, 2009 • Filed under: Melrose Place — Webmaster @ 7:18 pm

The CW has officially picked up the updated version of Melrose Place, the campy 1990s series revolving around a group of twentysomethings who live in a swanky L.A. apartment complex. The new version adheres to the same premise, but with a murder-mystery twist introduced in the pilot.

While the original series included an openly gay male character, this one includes a bisexual woman: Stylish publicist Ella, played by Katie Cassidy (Taken, Harper’s Island), who is in a casual relationship with fellow apartment-dweller David (Shaun Sipos).

Ella’s bisexuality will reportedly be revealed in the pilot via a kiss at a club. The casting call for the pilot included an “early 20’s, gorgeous, exotic model type who catches ‘Ella’s’ (Katie Cassidy) eye in a club and they share a passionate same sex kiss.”

EW.com describes Ella as “[David's] omnisexual sometime lover, a PR whiz whose tongue is as sharp as her stilettos.”

Melrose Place Remake Has Its First Tenant

The apartment complex on The CW’s remake of Melrose Place is starting to get new residents.

First up? Actress Katie Cassidy, who is also a cast member on CBS’s buzzed-about upcoming murder mystery series, Harper’s Island. The two project’s won’t conflict because Harper’s will have a new cast next season if the series is renewed.

Cassidy, 22, who is the daughter of The Partridge Family’s David Cassidy, will play a sexy, sassy up-and-coming publicist on the remake.

And rumor has it that Mischa Barton has also auditioned for a role on the series’ pilot, but her rep says there’s no official news to share at this time.

Laura Leighton Returns for CW’s New Melrose Place

Posted on Apr 14, 2009 • Filed under: Melrose Place — Webmaster @ 5:14 pm

Laura Leighton’s character Sydney Andrews is back from the dead to star in the CW’s new version of Melrose Place.

“It was a near-fatal accident. You never actually saw her dead,” says a source familiar with the show, referring to what looked like Sydney’s demise in the original Melrose Place.

At the end of Season 5 of Melrose, a car struck Sydney on her wedding day and left fans believing that she’d died. But appearances can be deceiving: Leighton is back as Sydney who will be the landlord on the network’s updated series.

The cast is complete, says a source, and they’ll start shooting the pilot next week.

The New Melrose Place: Who’s Who

Posted on Apr 14, 2009 • Filed under: Melrose Place — Webmaster @ 5:11 pm

Pilot season is here, and as always, the most exciting new projects are on the CW. And of those, this year’s most tantalizing effort is easily the reimagined Melrose Place.

Officially, we’ll have to wait nearly six months to see it, but unofficially, we’re starting to get a picture of what life will be like for the residents of what may still be L.A.’s hippest street.

Who’s starring, what characters are they playing and what do we know about return engagements by original castmembers? Here’s the scoopage for now…

High Profile, High Security: Lest you think Melrose Place is just a concept flying high on a wing and prayer, you should know that there is a fully developed pilot script. But unlike last year’s 90210 pilot script, which traveled far and wide through Hollywood before the series ever made it to air, the Melrose Place pages are being kept top, top secret.
