Web has given series greenlights to three dramas — Melrose Place, Vampire Diaries and The Beautiful Life — in advance of its sked presentation on Thursday.
The Melrose Place redo, from CBS Television Studios, was penned by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. Like the Fox sudser from the early 1990s, series revolves around a group of twentysomethings who live in a swanky L.A. apartment complex, but with a murder mystery twist right from the get-go.

The CW has officially picked up the updated version of Melrose Place, the campy 1990s series revolving around a group of twentysomethings who live in a swanky L.A. apartment complex. The new version adheres to the same premise, but with a murder-mystery twist introduced in the pilot.
While the original series included an openly gay male character, this one includes a bisexual woman: Stylish publicist Ella, played by Katie Cassidy (Taken, Harper’s Island), who is in a casual relationship with fellow apartment-dweller David (Shaun Sipos).
Ella’s bisexuality will reportedly be revealed in the pilot via a kiss at a club. The casting call for the pilot included an “early 20′s, gorgeous, exotic model type who catches ‘Ella’s’ (Katie Cassidy) eye in a club and they share a passionate same sex kiss.”
EW.com describes Ella as “[David's] omnisexual sometime lover, a PR whiz whose tongue is as sharp as her stilettos.”

Freddy Krueger will have his hands full in the new A Nightmare on Elm Street, especially with the latest member to join the cast.
Actress Katie Cassidy has taken the role of “Kris” in the Samuel Bayer-directed reboot of Wes Craven’s ’84 slasher film. She’s the second female lead to sign aboard after Rooney Mara. Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker and Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger also star.
Cassidy is no stranger to Supernatural fans. She had a good run on the CW horror series as the demon Ruby. Prior to that stint she played the final girl in the Black Christmas remake and was recently seen kidnapped in the Liam Neeson-starring hit Taken. Television viewers can also find her on Harper’s Island.
A Nightmare on Elm Street begins rolling next month in the Chicago area and hits theaters on April 16, 2010.
